La Serena, Chile is known as Central Chile’s premier beach town. But it hasn’t always just been a simple beach resort spot situated on the cold Humboldt current. The adjoining town of Coquimbo was also once host to a heavy naval base, which included the home to many British Sailors during the famous England/Argentine war over the Falkland Islands. Today, the barrio ingles district of Coquimbo is one of the more interesting spots in the area. It is full of interesting structures and statues as well as some of the best bars, and nightlife in general, in La Serena. Although it might not be hyped too much by your travel guide it is well worth stopping in for a look.
